In this assignment, I reached out to four people from my community in Jiaxing, China, and asked them about their internet service and usage. Here are some of the main points that I learned from them:

• Rongbin Zhang lives in the city center of Jiaxing and has fiber internet service. He pays 200 yuan per month for his Internet service which is linked to the service of China Mobile. The combo of the service includes free calls to 9 family members, free use of the Internet, and router service at home. He started using the internet in 2000 and uses it mainly for work and communication. He thinks that the internet has improved his efficiency and connectivity with his colleagues and family members. His main concern about the Internet is that his son may be addicted to video games.
• Chongqin Zhang lives in a rural area in Jiaxing and has fiber internet service. He pays only 20 yuan per month for his Internet service because he is in the family plan of Rongbin Zhang, and he only has to pay the basic money to use the Internet. He is the oldest person among the three people, he is more than 70 years old. He started using the internet in 2015 and uses it mainly for entertainment and connection with old friends. He thinks that the internet has expanded his knowledge and opportunities to contact other people. He faces some problems when using the internet, that sometimes the Internet becomes slow, and he doesn’t know the reason.
• Xinyue Wang lives in the urban area of Jiaxing and has fiber internet service. She pays 20 yuan per month for her internet service with her student plan. She started using the internet in 2017 when she became a primary school student and uses it mainly for social media and gaming. She thinks that the internet has made his life more fun and exciting. She faces some difficulties when using the internet, such as addiction to video games.
• Finally, I asked a colleague in my internship company, Zhiyuan Li. He is a web designer. He mainly uses HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. He uses the Internet for many purposes, he can learn skills have entertainment, and communicate with colleagues using the Internet. He thinks that web design is an easy job, the main challenge is to communicate with back-end and product managers.

Above all, I think the Internet increases the opportunities for people to communicate with others and make the industry more efficient. However, there are still some problems, such as addiction and security problems. I think I understand more about how to create websites that can fit people’s interests and help them use the Internet more efficiently.

Finally, there are some people that I may left out, these people in the countryside in my area. They may not have a chance to use the fast fiber Internet and I am not able to contact them when I am not in that place.
